Just how important are good kitchen gadgets in my life? If I were given a choice between jewelry or a kitchen tool, every time, without fail, I will end up going for the latter… unless, of course, I already had everything I want in my kitchen
. So, men, who are reading this article, believe me, I am not alone in saying this: A diamond is NOT a girl’s best friend! A good kitchen gadget is more likely to be one, though. Just ask my Husband So, in today’s post, ladies and gentlemen, I will tell you about my 15 MUST HAVE kitchen tools, that I cannot live without and that you SHOULD NOT either.
#1 Vita-Mix
The king of all kitchen appliances. The Rolls Royce of blenders. The trusted friend of my stomach. A machine that makes me swoon, every time I walk by a demo counter, even though I already own one. If I were offered another one, I would take it… oh, and one in every color, please!

Do you know that feeling you get when you receive an unexpected gift? Especially when it is something you really wanted, but did not expect to get? I can only liken it to having Christmas around the year
.
When we lived in the state of Washington, eating healthy was not only fun, but we saved a LOT of money doing it. Between doing a CSA with an organic farm (community supported agriculture–when you buy a share in a local farm and get great, fresh seasonal produce for great prices, while supporting local community), growing some of our own things (honestly my Mom did and we enjoyed the fruit of her labor
), sales at local stores, filling in what we were missing, and an amazing on-line co-op (cooperative–a jointly owned commercial enterprise (usually organized by farmers or consumers, that produces and distributes goods and services and is run for the benefit of its owners, so a lot of products are not only great quality, they are a much better price that you would find at big stores like the beloved Whole Paycheck Foods
) we were saving about $1000 a season (one of my friends did the calculations), compared to what we were spending buying only through large grocery stores. The co-op we used was Azure Standard, and it operated only in certain states, so, when we moved to Ohio, we were no longer able to get on their routes–they did not deliver to Ohio
. While we could still order items through mail, and even save a little money after paying S&H, it was not the same, especially because we could no longer perishable items. (When watermelons were in season, I remember paying only about 10 cents per pound for the most amazing, finger licking red fruit–God’s best gift to humanity! When I was pregnant and craved watermelon all the time, I used to spend up to $7-8 for one small size melon–I was afraid I was going to drain my baby’s college fund before she even came out of me
.) Imagine my emotional pain when I could no longer get the best seasonal produce of great quality, backed by great customer service (I am tell you from my personal experience–those folks really stood by their name!). I was heart broken!
Fast forward to Friday of last week. I received a surprise email from one of the Vegalicious readers telling me that a miracle has happened–Azure Standard, expanded into Ohio and many more states. For those of you who follow me on Facebook page, you already had the spoiler alert
, and I promised to dig deep to find out what all states they now have routes in. Get ready! They are now in 29 (!) states, which are listed on this map:
